Mandarins Winter Guard

The Sacramento Mandarins have a long history with winter color guard, dating back to the organization’s early years. The guard joined the California Color Guard Circuit in 1965, hosted its first indoor color guard competition in 1969, and later returned to winter guard competition in 1978. By 1980, the Mandarins earned national recognition with a Top 15WGI placement, followed by continued success in the California Color Guard Circuit and WGI through the 1980s and 1990s, including Independent Open finalist placements in 1994 and 1995.

1965 - Ye Wah Color Guard accepted for California Color Guard Circuit membership
1973 - California Color Guard Circuit Class A Champions
- Stanley Knaub on staff
1978 - Competed in CCGC
- Featured the first male in the guard, Mark Dong, as Darth Vader!
1979 - Competed in CCGC
1980 - Color Guard competes in the Winter Guard Olympics in Cape Cod, MA
- Winter Guard Olympics - 15th place finish
- CCGC - Co-Champions with Royal Sabres
1981 - California Color Guard Circuit Champions
1982 - Exhibition Rifle Ensemble at CCGC
- Featured the first two male members who spun equipment in the ensemble
1983 - Competed in CCGC
1984 - Competed in CCGC
1985 - Competed in CCGC
1988 - Tangerines Prep Guard formed
1994 - WGI Independent Open Winter Guard - 5th place finish.
1995 - WGI Independent Open Winter Guard - 6th place finish.
1996 - Dual show combining Winter Guard and Winter Percussion ensembles!
