Mandarins Arts Academy

 
 

The newest program from Mandarins Performing Arts, the Mandarins Arts Academy, is a series of weekly workshops held at the Mandarins Event Center for ages 10-16 that offer beginning-level music instruction. Our first academy series is focusing on percussion (drums).

When: Fridays from 4:00 to 5:45 pm for eight weeks.

March 13 through May 1.

Cost: $250 per student. Limited to 25 students.

Percussion
Series

The Mandarins Drum Academy is an eight-week program that starts on Friday, March 13th, 2026. The academy serves as an introduction to marching percussion, also known as drumline. No prior knowledge is required, and the curriculum will be a grassroots introduction to the world of marching band/ percussion for 10 - 16-year-olds. After completion of the course, the student will have the proper fundamentals to be successful not only in drumline but all facets of music.

Mandarins Arts Academy Director

Vince Hjerpe

Vince Hjerpe (Mr. H) has been involved in the drumline activity for more than twenty years. He is an alumnus of Bella Vista High School and was a snare drummer for the Mandarins in 2006. After graduating from high school, Mr. H enlisted in the Marine Corps and served as a member of the Commandant's Own until 2012.

He has also performed in an NFL drumline with the Philadelphia Eagles and an NBA drumline with the Sacramento Kings.

 

Mr. H has a master's degree in education from Sacramento State and is currently a full-time teacher at Lodi Unified School District.
