Color Guard Staff
Rocco currently lives in Pittsburgh, PA where he attends Point Park University, pursuing a degree in Dance Performance. Previously, he attended Bowling Green State University, earning a Bachelors in Music Education. He currently teaches the color guard at Norwin High School. Recently, Rocco served as the color guard director at OFallon Township HS, where he led them to be a BOA Grand National Finalist and a WGI Scholastic A class finalist in his first year.

Ja'Malh Wallace is honored to join The Mandarins Color Guard staff. Currently residing in Dayton, Ohio, Ja'Malh has been a performer and educator for over 15 years. His background includes theater, voice, dance, improvisation, and the marching arts. As a marching arts entertainer, he performed with Onyx (World), beginning in 2008, then returned to the group for the 2012-2016 seasons, and the 2018-2020 seasons. This coming season will mark his 10h year as a cast member with this premier organization. As marching arts instructor and choreographer, Ja'Malh has had the privilege to work with groups in Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Texas, Indiana, and Wisconsin. He is the current Guard Director at Carroll High School in Dayton, OH.
Brian Davis was born in Dayton, OH, but spent most of his life growing up in Northern Virginia. Brian began his color guard career in the fall of 2004, his senior year at Herndon High School. He began his teaching career by joining the Herndon High School color guard staff the year after he graduated. After spending a few years teaching at Herndon High, and spinning with a local independent color guard called Act 1, he decided to move to Kentucky to pursue new opportunities teaching and spinning. After two years in Kentucky, Brian moved to Dayton, Ohio. Brian has had the pleasure to spin with some remarkable organizations such as Act 1 2006-2008, Pride of Cincinnati 2013, and Onyx 2009-2012, 2014-2016. He has also worked on staff with fantastic organizations such as Herndon High School, Mason County High School, Bourbon County High School, Northmont High School, Miamisburg High School, Bellbrook High School, William Mason High School, South Shore Drill Team, George Mason University, O2, and Onyx.
Jeffrey Capponi began his pageantry career in 2004 at Century High School in Portland, Oregon and through the years performed with Oregon Crusaders, Cascades, The Madison Scouts, The Blue Devils, North by Northwest Winterguard and Oregon Crusaders Indoor percussion. He has worked with numerous high school color guards, marching bands and drum corps which include Oregon Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps, BOA and WGI Finalist O’Fallon Township HS, WGI Finalist Dartmouth HS, WGI Finalist Friendswood HS, WGI Finalist Oregon Crusaders Independent (Director and Designer), Juxtaposition Independent Winter Guard, and Lux Independent Winter guard, and has been the Color Guard Director and Designer for Maui High School since 2017. Jeff currently resides in Eagle, Idaho as a full time designer and choreographer for programs throughout the United States. Outside of the activity you can usually catch Jeff out for a run, playing with his gorgeous pup Georgia or supporting his local wineries and breweries.

Jed Garvey grew up in east Tennessee where he was introduced to the marching arts activity at Volunteer High School as a performer from 2004-2008. Upon graduating, Jed continued his passion for color guard, performing with the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps 2009-2011, Southeast Independent 2009-2012, Etude Winter Guard 2013, and five-time WGI World Champion Onyx Color Guard 2014-2015. Jed currently lives in Kingsport, TN where he is the color guard director and choreographer for three-time Bands of America Finalist Dobyns-Bennett High School. Over the years, Jed has had the privilege to design and choreograph for various active DCI and WGI programs across the country including Spirit of Atlanta, Pacific Crest, the Colts, the Cadets, Juxtaposition Winter Guard, and Etude Winter Guard. Jed graduated from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree in English and a specialization in technical writing. When he isn't teaching color guard Jed likes to hang out with friends, drink Starbucks, and spend time with his dog, Sansa. Jed is very excited to be working with the Mandarins, and to return to the west coast!
Anna lives in Fort Wright, Kentucky, just a short drive away from Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Northern Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s degree in Library Sciences and Informatics with a focus in Psychology. She will be furthering her pursuit for education at the University of Dayton in the fall of 2021 for a degree in Music Therapy. Anna began her career at Dixie Heights High School, playing flute with the marching band from 2006 to 2010. She performed with the winterguard program in 2008, 2009, and 2011 -- taking a small break in 2010 to march in the high school’s indoor percussion ensemble. After graduation, Anna joined O2 Colorguard where she marched from 2012-2014, spun with the Phantom Regiment in 2014, and marched Onyx World 2015, 16, 20, and 21. Anna previously taught at Campbell County High School and Dixie Heights High School. She currently teaches at Northmont High School and Onyx A/Open. Anna loves to spend time with her family, read, rock climb, play music, expand her yoga practice, and eat Indian food. This will be Anna’s inaugural year teaching drum corps and she’s ready to get to work with the Mandarins!
Brooke began her colorguard career in south Florida at Wesley Chapel HS and Wiregrass Ranch HS. During high school, she marched with Spirit of Atlanta for two summers, then went on to march with the Blue Stars. Post-high school, Brooke relocated to Alabama and performed with the Jacksonville State Marching Southerners, while making weekly trips to Atlanta to march with Aureus Independent Open winterguard. In 2011, Brooke moved to Kansas City, Missouri and marched for two seasons at Avidity Independent Open & World, earning the WGI silver medal in 2014 and serving as captain of the World guard in 2015. After retiring, Brooke continued into a teaching career across the midwest. Most recently, she worked as a choreographer/tech for Avidity Independent IO, La Voûte Performance Ensemble IO and O'Fallon Township High School SO. Outside of colorguard, Brooke is a 2021 graduate with a BS in Criminology from the University of Missouri- St. Louis and works with various St. Louis non-profits related to criminal and social justice.
Omari Simmons Grew up in Waxhaw, North Carolina, but currently resides in Atlanta Georgia. Omari began Dance at the age of two at Dance Precisions Dance Studio (2002-2008) then continued at Mathers Dance Company (2009-2014) and graduated from Steps N Motion Dance Studio (2014-2017). Omari is Currently working towards his B.F.A. in dance performance with a minor in Dance Education and Fashion Design. He has Attended and received many scholarships such as USC Kaufman Complexions Intensive, Jump Dance Convention and Joffrey Ballet Intensive. Omari still loves to train in Dance at the Atlanta Ballet Dance Academy and has been a guest instructor/choreographer for many dance studios and organizations within WGI. He also has an extensive background in the color guard activity performing with Marvin Ridge High School (2011-2017), Madison Scouts (2015), Carolina Crown (2016-2019) and Paramount Winter guard (2018-2020). Over the years and being a part of many organizations, he has earned two WGI First Place titles and one Second Place title. Omari is ecstatic to be working with the Mandarins this Summer, and loves having the opportunity to spread the passion and information for Dance and the Colorguard activity. His goal is to become a better educator and watch performers grow and flourish in the activity for years to come.
Kate is originally from Missouri and currently is living in Dayton, Ohio. She started her color guard career in 2002 with the Miamisburg Color Guards and continued through their programs until graduating in 2012. She then joined Onyx in 2013 and has been involved in their projects either as a performer or staff ever since. Kate has worked with some great programs including Hilliard Bradley HS, Fairborn HS, Greenon HS, Northmont HS, William Mason HS, George Mason University, Onyx A, Onyx Open, and Onyx World.
Allison is originally from Plainfield, IL and is a 2020 graduate from The Ohio State University with a B.S. in Public Health. Allison’s performance career spans a total of 15 seasons between marching band, drum corps, and winter guard. Her performing career began at Plainfield North High School in the marching band, and continued into the indoor season with Plainfield Winter Guard from 2012-2015. Allison went on to perform with Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps from 2015-2018, serving as color guard captain in 2017 and 2018. She performed with Juxtaposition in 2016, as well as Onyx in 2017 and 2018. Allison has taught and choreographed at multiple organizations during and following her performing years. She worked with Dublin Coffman High School in Dublin, OH for 5 years, serving as the Color Guard Director for 2 years while completing her degree at OSU. She has also worked with Veteran’s Memorial High School (Brownsville, TX), Dripping Springs High School (Dripping Springs, TX), Plainfield North High School (Plainfield, IL), Bedford North Lawrence High School (Bedford, IN), Cincinnati Tradition (Cincinnati, OH), Centerville High School (Centerville, OH), and Onyx (Dayton, OH). Currently living in Miamisburg, OH, Allison has a full-time job as the Move-In Coordinator at Dublin Retirement Village by Senior Star while continuing to work with Centerville High School and Onyx. Allison is very excited to be joining the Mandarins staff for the 2021 season!
